Dog Friendly Things to Do on Skye

Skye offers a wealth of activities for you and your dog to enjoy together. From dramatic coastlines to peaceful glens, the island’s rugged landscapes are ideal for outdoor adventures with your four-legged friend.

Start with a beach walk—Talisker Bay and Coral Beach are favourites for dog walkers, offering soft sand, space to roam, and stunning views. The quieter stretches of Staffin Bay or Glenbrittle Beach also make for excellent dog-friendly spots to stretch those legs.

For keen walkers, there’s no shortage of scenic trails. Tackle iconic spots like the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing, or opt for gentler routes such as the Braes coast or the Kinloch to Leitir Fura forest trail, which winds through ancient woodland and offers incredible sea views. Always keep dogs on a lead where livestock are present and be mindful of steep terrain.

Many boat trips, particularly from Elgol and Portree, are happy to welcome dogs on board. It's a great way to see the dramatic coastline and wildlife—just check with the operator in advance.

After a day of exploring, relax at one of the island’s many dog-friendly pubs and cafés. Outdoor seating is common, and some establishments even provide water bowls or treats for canine guests. Portree, Broadford, and Dunvegan all have welcoming spots where both dogs and humans can refuel.

Don't miss the chance to stroll around castle grounds (such as those here at Armadale) or explore village paths with historical sites and scenic surroundings. Whether it's a windswept hill or a quiet harbour, Skye is full of shared moments for you and your dog to enjoy.
