Guided Tour Details
- Duration: tour lasts between 30 & 45 minutes.
- Group Size: Maximum of 15 for the museum tour.
- Availability: Weekdays only; pre-booking is required.
- Cost: £150 per group, in addition to the discounted entrance fee of £12.50 per guest for groups of 8 or more (if pre-booked).

In 1746, Flora MacDonald risked everything to help Bonnie Prince Charlie escape, smuggling him from Uist to Skye in disguise. But love takes many forms, and today, we’re sharing the story of her lifelong partnership with Allan MacDonald of Kingsburgh.
Flora married Allan at Armadale Castle in 1750, and together they embarked on a life filled with adventure and hardship. Their journey included a move to North Carolina and enduring the turmoil of war. Before leaving Scotland, Flora gave birth to their first child, a son named Charles, perhaps in memory of the Prince she once aided. Over the years, it was presumed that Flora and Allan had six more children, and their family grew despite the challenges of separation and struggle.
Eventually, both Flora and Allan found their way back to Skye, reunited in their homeland to support each other in their later years. Their bond endured for four decades until Flora passed in 1790. It’s said she was buried in the very sheets where Prince Charles had once slept, the same sheets she carried with her through all her travels.
This Valentine’s Day, we celebrate love in all forms: romantic, steadfast, and the kind that weathers every storm. Wishing you a day filled with love and moments to treasure.
